Anthony Mackinder, with Lyn Blackmore

The evolution of a rural landscape in north Kent is examined through the consideration of the results of two excavations on a site overlooking the marshes and tributaries of the River Medway, near Sittingbourne. A Late Bronze Age field system and a Middle Iron Age farmstead are described in detail, together with brief accounts of earlier prehistoric finds and of Late Iron Age/early Roman and medieval land use. There is a particular emphasis on the prehistoric pottery assemblage and its regional context. This volume adds to a growing body of archaeological research occasioned by extensive housing development in the Kemsley/Iwade area.
